Ted Healy was an American vaudeville performer, comedian, and actor who was best known as the original leader of the comedy group The Three Stooges. Born Ernest Lea Nash in 1896, Healy got his start in show business in the 1910s as a vaudeville performer, working in various comedy acts and stage shows.
In 1922, Healy formed a comedy act with Moe Howard and his brother Shemp Howard, which eventually led to the creation of The Three Stooges. Healy served as the group's leader and would often play the role of the straight man to the Stooges' antics. The group enjoyed significant success during their time together, appearing in a number of films and shorts.
However, Healy's relationship with The Three Stooges was often fraught with tension, as he was known for his abrasive personality and heavy drinking. The group eventually split from Healy in 1934 and went on to achieve even greater success without him.
Despite his sometimes difficult personality, Healy was a talented performer who made significant contributions to the comedy world. He continued to work in film and theater until his death in 1937 at the age of 41. Healy was posthumously inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994.
